KEYNOTE LECTURES

Maryann Feldman
Maryann P. Feldman is the Watts Professor of Public Policy and Management at Arizona State University and Research Director at the Global Center for Technology Transfer. She chairs the Policy Forum of the Science, Technology and Economic Policy Board of the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and has led a congressionally mandated assessment of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. She is a senior fellow at Heartland Forward and serves on advisory boards including the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research program on Innovation, Equity and the Future of Prosperity. Feldman is an editor of Research Policy and recipient of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. Her recent research focuses on place-based economic development and the factors that promote economic restructuring and resilience.

Koen Frenken
Koen Frenken is Full Professor in Innovation Studies at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Grenoble (applied economics) and the University of Amsterdam (social sciences). He won personal grants in the Marie Curie, NWO VIDI and NWO VICI programmes. Theoretical interests include evolutionary economics, institutional theory and complexity theory. He mainly works on innovation, diffusion, economic geography, sharing economy and policy.

The XXVIII Applied Economics Meeting will be held at the University of Cádiz, specifically in the Constitución 1812 Building. Situated in the heart of Cádiz, the Constitución 1812 Building offers a distinguished academic setting with modern facilities and will host the parallel sessions of the Conference on 11 and 12 June.

APPLIED ECONOMICS MEETINGS promoted by the Asociación Libre de Economía (AldE) and the Applied Economic Analysis (AEA), are conceived as a channel to disseminate and discuss research work that deepen the knowledge of reality through the use of applied economic analysis.

In Applied Economics Meeting two types of working sessions will take place. On the one hand, parallel thematic sessions, where scientific communications selected in each area will be presented. On the other hand, plenary sessions with invited keynote speakers.

The Applied Economics Meetings are conferences open to any researcher with an interest in Applied Economics. They are organized jointly by the Asociación Libre de Economía (ALdE) and the Revista de Economía Aplicada (REA). The Applied Economics Meeting is open to the participation of the international scientific community, so that the official languages ​​are Spanish and English. The papers written in English can be assigned to a session in which it is the working language. Meeting organization encourages participants to present and defend their papers in English.

There is no direct train connection from Seville Airport.

  1. Take the EA Airport Bus (TUSSAM) from Seville Airport to Seville Santa Justa Train Station.

From Cádiz Train Station to the Historic City Centre

Cádiz Train Station is located near the historic city centre. From there, the Congress venue can be reached on foot, by taxi, or by local transport. Cádiz is compact and very walkable.

Most central locations, including the Congress venue, can easily be reached on foot. Taxis are available if needed, but are generally unnecessary within the city centre.

YOUNG RESEARCHER AEA AWARD

APPLIED ECONOMIC ANALYSIS YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD

2026 CALL FOR PAPERS

1. The Applied Economic Analysis Young Researcher Award will be granted to the best paper presented at the Meeting whose author or authors are (all) UNDER 35 years of age and have expressed their desire to be considered for the award by selecting the corresponding option on the registration form for the Applied Economics Meeting.

2. The Selection Panel will be composed of the Meeting’s Scientific Committee or those members to whom the Committee delegates this responsibility. The Panel will select the winning paper through an objective scoring system, which will be reported to the Board of Directors. Additionally, the Panel may take into account the opinions of the moderators from the sessions where the papers are presented.

3. The Award consists of €1,000.00 (one thousand euros), donated by Ediciones de la Revista de Economía Aplicada, the publisher of Applied Economic Analysis.

4. In exceptional and duly justified cases, the Panel may grant the award to two papers, which will share the financial prize. Alternatively, the Panel may award a runner-up prize (accésit) with a value of €500.00 (five hundred euros). Furthermore, the Award may be declared void.

5. At the start of the Meeting, the Panel will announce the finalists for the ALdE Young Researcher Award. The authors (at least one author per paper) undertake to be present at the closing dinner, where the final decision will be made public. The Panel’s decision shall be final and not subject to appeal.

6. Participation in the award process implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Objective: to encourage the participation of ALdE junior members in the Applied Economics Meetings.

Eligibility: ALdE members aged 35 or under who are registered for the XXVIII Applied Economics Meeting. Membership status must be active at the time the grant is paid.

Application Procedure: applicants for the travel grant must submit the following documentation using the form provided on this page:

  • Travel grant application letter.
  • A brief Curriculum Vitae.
  • A copy of the paper to be presented at the conference or, failing that, an abstract.

Awarding Process: applications will be assessed by the ALdE Board of Directors or its delegated members. Travel grants will be allocated according to the following criteria:

  • The quality and relevance of the submitted paper.
  • The applicant’s Curriculum Vitae.
  • Priority will be given to applicants currently undertaking a PhD thesis who have not received a grant in previous calls. In no case may a grant be awarded for more than two calls.

Grant Amount: 10 travel grants will be awarded for participation in the Applied Economics Meeting. Each grant is for up to €400, and proof of expenditure will be required.

Appeals: all decisions made by the selection committee shall be final and not subject to appeal.

Applicant Obligations and Payment Procedures: grant payments will be processed following the Applied Economics Meeting, upon submission of a copy of the certificate of attendance and paper presentation. This documentation must be sent to alde@alde.es.

Submission Period: 1 March to 1 April 2026.

Notification of Results: 30 April 2026.

RESOLUTION

The results for the travel grants will be published on 30 April 2026.
